Those Who Can Make You Believe Absurdities Can Make You Commit Atrocities
Voltaire, the French author, (1694 – 1778), coined the above quote and this statement is as true today as it was when he first spoke it.
The television and newspaper news are replete with atrocities committed. This phenomenon first began at the beginning of humanity’s history. Eve was deceived by the serpent into believing that God was not being truthful when He warned that if they ate from the forbidden tree, they would surely die. The serpent deceived Eve not only into eating from the tree, but he deceived her into believing that they would be like God. Adam followed Eve’s example despite the fact that God had warned Adam. This belief is the epitome of absurdities and through this absurd belief; the first two humans committed an atrocity that had repercussions on all of mankind throughout the ages.
Examples of absurd beliefs can be seen in both the history of humanity and in our bible. God promised the Israelites what He would do for them if they obeyed Him and what He would do if they disobeyed Him. Despite God’s instructions, they disobeyed Him and even committed the unbelievable atrocity of burning their firstborn alive to a pagan god. Yet, when they turned back to God, He was faithful to them and protected them. Over and over again, they turned from the truth, believed an absurdity and went as far as burning their firstborn alive. God displayed His love and patience towards the Israelites numerous times, yet the Israelites believed continued to believe the absurd over their experience of God’s patience and love towards them and suffered the consequences each and every time.
In the history of mankind, we can see the effects of belief in the absurd and witness the consequences. In the Arab world, we see young children being taught the absurd belief that Jews and Christians must be killed, that to do so will gain them entrance into paradise. These people are led to believe that killing, maiming and suicide is a reward and they will be rewarded abundantly by their god. With this as their core belief, it is no wonder that they will commit an atrocity and blow themselves up, taking innocent lives with them. It’s an easy step once an absurd belief is incorporated.
The Germans were made to believe that the Jewish people were the cause of their troubles and that they were subhuman and we see the result of that absurd belief in WWII. This belief is beyond absurd, it is illogical and depraved. Once this abominable and absurd belief became a national belief, the step to atrocities was not that difficult.
Even within Christianity, we can see absurd beliefs despite scriptural teaching. We can look at the Spanish Inquisition and see the absurd beliefs and the atrocities committed as a result of these beliefs. In more modern times, we can see absurd beliefs within Christianity. Different denominations have led their congregants to believe such absurdities that Christians have the power to claim healing. The atrocities that have come out of this absurd belief have been staggering. For instance, reported in the news was a family whose child was diabetic. They were led to believe that if only they claimed a healing from God, their child would be healed. They stopped giving their child life saving insulin and as he lay on his bed close to death, they still refused to give him the life-saving medication. They were led to believe that if they gave the child the insulin, they lacked faith. They believed the absurd; committed an atrocity and their child needlessly died. Another example in claiming a healing, a young girl has a degenerative eye disease and was losing her eyesight. Her family took her to a conference where “people were miraculously healed.” This young girl put all her faith into this absurd belief and when the healing did not take place, she was utterly crushed and lost faith. The faith healers that we can watch on television, lead folks to believe an absurdity, and the atrocity that stems from this absurd belief are people suffering.
Yet God gave us the scriptures to teach us. The bible warns us of these wolves in sheep’s clothing. As we draw closer to the end of the ages, these absurd beliefs are increasing and the atrocities that stem from these absurdities also are increasing. Within Christianity, we can witness numerous absurd beliefs from claiming (which is a demand) from God, the absurd belief that we have the power to bind and loose demons, taking control of the air for God, performing inner healing, and on it goes. What is the atrocity from these absurd beliefs? Christians that are made to believe these absurdities are spending their time in fighting demons through spiritual warfare, losing faith because their demands from God are not being met through their “claiming.” Through this absurd belief, I have witnessed Christians who are afraid to touch certain objects because they have been led to believe that demons can jump out from these objects and on to them.
Why do people believe the absurd? In the non-Christian world, it’s an easy step. Scripture states that man cannot see understand the things of God. The word that scripture uses is “cannot” which should be differentiated from “will not.” A non-Christian does not choose to ignore the things of God but lacks the ability to understand the things of God.
But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:14-16 NASB)
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. cannot (which means not capable or unable) serve God and wealth. (Matthew 6:24 NASB)
The non-Christian is unable to see the things of God and therefore will believe the absurd. The non-Christian will believe the lies of the devil. They will believe that what feels good is right. We can witness this phenomenon in our society. It is considered good to have children out-of-wedlock. From this absurd belief, we can see the effects it has on our society. Children committing atrocities is on the rise. We have been fed the lies that homosexuality is good.
What about Christians who fall for absurd beliefs and will commit atrocities such as denying their children life saving medication? In the book of Jude, we are warned about wolves in sheep’s clothing. We have countless denominations in Christianity each with its own distinct belief system in place that they teach to their congregants and all use the same scripture. God had one meaning when He spoke in scripture. He commanded us to study His word and show ourselves approved.
Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth. (2 Timothy 2:15 AMP)
For instance, when God stated, “by His stripes you are healed” in Isaiah 53:5, Christians have given it another absurd meaning. It is taught that this is the scripture to ‘claim’ for a physical healing. However, if Christians were to obey 2 Timothy 2:15 and correctly analyze and accurately divide the Word of Truth, one will see that the whole chapter is speaking about our guilt, iniquities and transgressions. The book is prophetic in that it is speaking about the coming Messiah who will pay the penalty for our sins. There is no mention in this chapter that Jesus will take our physical ailments upon Himself.
Christians, like all people, want a life of ease. God never promised us a life of ease. He never promised us that if we “sow a seed” to a ministry, that we will become wealthy. Yet, this is taught by the name it/claim it preachers. Christians are giving up their hard earned money, enriching the pockets of those that teach this to such a degree that they live in mansions while the rest are left wondering why their faith is not strong enough such as the little girl whose eyesight was not healed. ABSURD!
They do not need to wonder as God never made such promises. He promised to supply all our needs which does not include the guarantee of physical health, wealth. We can read the history of Christians who suffered immensely in days gone by, those that died deaths that are unmanageable.
Believe the absurd and it is a mere step to an atrocity. Believe the word of God, and the Sovereign God will take care of all our needs.

The human mind is fundamentally prone to the generation of illusions. Everyone is infected with an imaginative ‘Spiritual’ tendency, sentimentally induced, that is nothing more than the natural wonderment of our existence & surroundings. Elemental reasoning must be applied to give all ‘fantasial’ thought a true perspective.
‘Heavenly’ visions need to be truly assessed & not allowed to sabotage the prevalent common sense & research that seeks to counter Life’s ongoing problems. Unrealistic ‘Beliefs’, a cause of so much mayhem & mortality of past & present, are all very basic Man-made creations – - – devious proclamations of a false & tedious nature, incessantly filling shallow minds with absurd religious dogma.
Unease can result in the mind having a very distorted, tormented view of one’s situation, with an urge to look skywards for help. To form a valid judgement on ‘figmentary’ Gods, & there are many, a reasonably healthy state of mind is essential!
Nearing the end of a long life, not without bother, the need to rely on any absurd ‘belief’ has never entered my consciousness. It’s all too apparent that ‘religious Faith’ is pure HUMBUG, blessed with existence by Impostors & their largely naive followers.
A prime subject for amusement!
I really think you nailed it with the phrase “unrealistic beliefs.” Not only are they unrealistic but many of these beliefs are nothing short of false and absurd. Once a person goes there, who knows where they could end up.
I enjoyed your comments. Thanks!
