None Are Righteous
Mankind is a fallen creature and is in a sorry state. None are righteous.
I have picked three verses in scripture that emphatically declares our state. As “good” as we may think of ourselves or of other people, in the eyes of God, we are corrupt, unclean and even our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment in His eyes.
For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. (Isaiah 64:6 NASB)
ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE.” (Romans 3:12 NASB)
They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one. (Psalms 14:3 NASB)
For all of us have become like one who is unclean. Even believers are not righteous, we have the IMPUTED righteousness of Him. Scripture states that: and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, (Philippians 3:9 NASB).
There are countless stories of people doing heroic acts, kind deeds, helping others, feeding and clothing the homeless, and on and on. For instance, an atheist goes into a burning home without regard to his own safety and rescues the family/children inside just performed a very noble and righteous act for he saved a whole family from certain death. Yet, God declares him unrighteous even though the act that he just did is certainly a very noble and righteous act. Yet, God declares our acts, our “righteous deeds” to be like a filthy garment.
- “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5:21 NASB).
He came not for the righteous (as we know, there is none) but for the sinners — which we all are, every single one of us. “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.” (John 3:17 NASB). And hearing this, Jesus *said to them, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
The nature that we inherit from our first parents, Adam and Eve, causes us to be corrupt. We are utterly incapable of causing our nature to return to its original state, morally uncorrupt. To spend eternity in the presence of the Holy God, we must have an uncorrupt nature. Not only must our nature be uncorrupt, a price must be paid for our sin. We can do neither. A dog cannot change his nature of being a dog. A dog will act like a dog for he cannot help it. A bird will act like a bird for that is his nature. He cannot help but act like a bird. He can do nothing but act like a bird. We can train an animal to do “human acts” but we must train within the confines of that animal’s particular nature. The animal always will retain his nature. A human is born with a fallen nature. A human cannot help but act according to that nature. God has declared us to be unclean.
Without a new nature, we will not spend eternity in His presence.
- Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3:5 NASB)

I understand perfectly where the author of this post is going, but maybe the reader does not. The author correctly points out that mankind is impure due to our fallen nature. We have inherited sin. We are so corrupt that we cannot change our lives without the help of God. Thus, Jesus Christ tells us;
John 6:41-44 (NASB)
44″No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him
Think about that for a moment. Do you think you chose Jesus Christ all on your own, from your fallen nature? Jesus says that if you follow him, it is because the Father has drawn you to Jesus.
So there you have it. You may have believed that it was you and your own free-will which chose Jesus Christ. But the scripture tells us that God does the choosing, not us. Afterall, the scripture tells us that “we love, because he first loved us”.
If you love Jesus Christ in your heart, then God has written your name in the book of life before you were born. He knew you. He “chose” you. You are his elect. Through God’s grace, you have been saved. Now go and be gracious to your neighbor and be thankful.
Hi,
Thanks for stopping by. I totally agree and while I did not say all that as succinctly as you did in this post, I did in another post (Effectual Call of God versus General Call of God) albeit it was a while ago (was well as a few others).
I love that last sentence of yours (Now go and be gracious to your neighbor and be thankful). I can tell you that above anything, my heart very much wants others to see the truth. It saddens me more than I can express that people go on with their lives with no regard to the truth of eternity.
P.s. I like your site. I was there poking around
and doing some reading.
