A Christian’s Position On Society

a-group-of-people-walking-down-the-street_w725_h544 I recently had a short conversation on someone’s blog in response to the pope’s declaration that condom’s do not prevent Aids. I am not a Catholic nor do I agree with the Pope’s erroneous statement for it is clear that if one uses a ‘barrier,’ sexually transmitted diseases are less likely to infect one’s partner (though not fool proof). The position taken by the blog owner was that while the concept of abstinence does work, it is foolish to expect that the masses will adhere to abstinence and therefore another solution must be found.

I agree. Abstinence will not be the standard for today’s society. In fact, just the opposite is true and unfortunately, while the medical community continues in their attempts to find cures for diseases that are transmitted by sexual activity, people will continue to be infected by these diseases. It was pointed out to me that I offered no solution to the epidemic. Abstinence was not a viable solution since it is clear that people are not willing to abstain until marriage. In other words, society needs another solution.

I agree that abstinence will not be the standard for today’s society but I disagree that we need to find another solution other than God’s solution. A Christian cannot look at the consequences of a sin and offer a safe way to sin. We do not see the bible teaching that if one must sin, let us offer you a safe way in which to do so. My role as a Christian is to offer the Good News of salvation to those that do not believe. I cannot force nor even convince anyone of the truth of the Word of God. I accept that as a Christian, I cannot offer solutions to the world’s troubles outside of the Word of God and because I will not promote society’s solutions if it comes against the Word of God. I will be labeled as a fool by those that do not hold God’s word to be valid for today. I care not what society thinks of my values, I value only what God has to say.

If people want to give people an opportunity to safely sin, I cannot stop you. But please do not expect Christians to set aside their beliefs and values, which differ from yours, and assist and promote safe sin. This is not limited to condoms but many of the values that our society has taken that are in opposition to the teachings of the Creator of the world in which we live. I have long accepted the path that society has taken but I shall not dishonor my God by assisting in that path that society has chosen to take.

    Tishrei,

I’m reminded of the old joke: I broke my arm in three places. The doctor told me not to go to those three places again.

I think it says quite a lot about our lostness and our desire to have what we want to have that even if some behavior can actually kill us, we want to know how we can do it anyway.

    In Christ,
