Christians debating the Word of God

I post topics that are of interest to me. I do not consider what anyone wants to read for I cannot read the minds of people who stumble across this blog. Some have read regularly and some find their way here by search sources. This blog has stirred up a bit of dust with some controversial topics. Sometimes the dust has been stirred by topics that I did not expect would be controversial. The month of September was a controversial month.

I started this blog to focus myself on my own personal bible studies and to journal my views about the world in which I live. I spent some time today reflecting on this blog and my purpose. I have learned through my interactions with people. I would like to share a story that I read a few years ago.

There was a missionary couple in India. In that country, they have a class system. The lower class is treated poorly by the rest of society. The missionary’s wife was holding a bible study in her home. She was sharing the Gospel with some of the native women. As she spoke one of the women got up, left the room and did not return for some time. After the bible study was over, the missionary’s wife spoke to the woman who had left and asked her why she left and returned. Her answer? She told the missionary that she went to speak to the maid to find out how she was treated. You see, maids are mistreated in that countryas they are seen as nothing more than lower class servants that do not warrant kindness. The maid told the woman that she had never been treated better in her life. Her answer to the missionary’s wife was “I wanted to see how you treated the maid. When she told me that she has never been treated better in her life, I wanted to hear more about this Jesus you were talking about.”

  • “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. (Mat 5:14-15 ESV)

God did not give us His Word so that we could use it to hone our debate skills. If we win a debate with someone who is not a follower of Christ, we have gained nothing except a notch on our belt and an inflated pride. We will have left a bad impression about Christianity while our pride has been fed for having won yet another debate.

People are watching and listening. More important, our Redeemer is watching how we present His Word to the world. His Word is not a tool that we use to win debates. It the Good News of salvation.

If the light of my Redeemer cannot shine on this blog, it’s time to shut it down. May it not be so.

The devil wants you to shut down…if you feel the lord wants you to keep writing ,? keep doing it!

Old Satan does not like anything glorifying the lord. Just make sure your remarks are biblical and can be back up by scriptures.

the worse thing to do is to be judgmental and not live the way a person preaches,,Amen? cheers uncle Dennis

Hi, thanks for the encouragement. Well, I sure do try and keep my posts scriptural and when I do err, I hope people will point it out to me.

Wait a minute. Are you telling me that Christianity, the Bible and God himself aren’t meant as weapons to beat all the unbelievers into submission? I think someone forgot to tell most Christians.

LOL, Jesus never beat anyone into submission and I think we become frustrated when they don’t get it so we try and do it on our own.

It’s actually kinda sad at times. I really think some of my relatives believe they are just supposed to hammer away at non-Christians until they give in. They constantly use all their Christian arsenal to “lovingly” blast away at anyone in their life that doesn’t fit their idea of Christianity.

I’ve talked to some of these same people afterwords, without fail their response is always the same. They want nothing to do with Christianity because they don’t want to be like the person who just tried to give them a spiritual smackdown.

    WHAT EVER IT TAKES

I agree, whatever it takes. Unfortunately, beating a person into submission is not what it takes. Too bad because I’d be really good at that…LOL.

people do not want to b christian because they are afraid of comitment, however it is essential the they know that Jesus died so evryone should not be the same and change from their old works because they become a new creation and are no longer slaves of sin.

I agree — it is essential that everyone know that Jesus died to save us from the penalty of sin. That is what God commanded us to do — take the Gospel to the whole world.

      Thanks for stopping by.
