Shaniya Davis – Vengeance and recompense will be the Lord’s
I read many comments on what should happen to this woman who did this to her own child. Her act was so wicked that people came up with all sorts of horrible things that should be committed against this mother. One comment stuck out the most for me. One person suggested that the death penalty would be too good for her. It was suggested that she should be kept in a coffin 23 hours a day and only let out for one hour for food so that the rest of her life would be misery.

but Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 19:14)
As our world continues to sink deeper in violence and depravity, it seems that we have become immune to the news that we watch on our televisions or read in our newspapers. There is so much that, perhaps as a means of self-preservation, we cannot process the amount of violence that surround us. The story about the young child, Shaniya Davis, shocked and stunned the nation and the world. The depravity of the crime was beyond imagination.
In reality, when this ‘mother’ steps into eternity her fate is much worse than spending the rest of her life locked up in a coffin.
Vengeance is mine, and recompense,
for the time when their foot shall slip;
for the day of their calamity is at hand,
and their doom comes swiftly.’
Deuteronomy 32:35 (ESV)
There is not anything we can do to her in her lifetime that will equal to the vengeance the Lord will take upon this wicked woman. Some people are so hardened that their conscious is seared. Seared means to cauterize with a hot iron, make permanent. While I cannot make that judgment for that belongs to the Lord, an act so wicked and so depraved would seem to fit the definition of a seared conscious. Gill commentary has this to say about a seared conscious.
. . . whose consciences are cauterized and hardened, and past feeling; and have no regard to what they say or do, make no conscience of anything, but under a cloak of sanctity commit the most shocking impieties; and are men of the most infamous characters, and of the most enormous and scandalous lives and conversations; so that the metaphor may be taken either from the searing of flesh with an iron, or cauterizing it, whereby it grows callous and hard; or from the stigmas or marks which used to be put on malefactors, or such who have been guilty of notorious crimes.
through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, 1 Timothy 4:2 (ESV)
Whatever punishment we inflict on this wicked woman will not compare to what she will face when she stands before God. If her conscious is seared, and from my human understanding it is, her fate is sealed.
As to Shaniya Davis, she is with the Lord for the little children are precious and the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as those (Matthew 19:14). I lack the vocabulary to describe what my heart feels as to the way her young life was cut short.
