My Saturday Recommendations
Well, seems like I’ve been causing a stir on my blog albeit inadvertently. Turns out my Saturday blog recommendations are not well received by some. First, I would like to explain why I have been doing recommendations whether it is a website or a blog. I spend some time on the internet and have found sites that have been a blessing to me. Some sites have been an incredible resource and blessing to my walk and I wanted to give others an opportunity to discovery what I have discovered. For instance, Grace Gems has an incredible amount of material and sometimes sites we discover is by word of mouth. Some of these sites have been pointed out to me by friends who will email me a site. Some of those sites I have bookmarked and have read them for a number of years.
Ever since I started blogging this past January, I have discovered blogs that have been a source of blessing to me. I have learned from other Christians things that I may have missed or seen something from a different perspective based on what they said in their blog. This leads me to this post and the stir I inadvertently have caused. It appears that some are uncomfortable. I have been asked why I do this – what am I asking for in return, my motivation? That was a question that took me by surprise . The answer to the question is nothing. I actually came up with this idea for two reasons. Well, I did not come up with this idea on my own, I borrowed this concept from another blog that I read a few years ago.
My first reason was I wanted to take a break on the weekend. That is why on Saturdays I have a “recommend” and on Sundays I post a sermon. The “Recommends” are something that is not time consuming and I can write quickly. The Sunday Morning Sermons, obviously are not written by me and are part of the public domain.
My second reason is what I have already stated above. I wanted to share with others what has been a blessing to me.
From now on, I won’t be featuring a blog but instead will feature websites that has little chance of seeing my blog. I will also feature books that I read or other Christian resources. No one, from here on out, will need to feel uncomfortable or feel that they need to do something for me in return. That was never my intent and to be honest, if that is how my “Recommends” appeared to others, it is best that blogs are not featured here.
As I close in on a year of blogging, I have learned much. What works for one blog may not work for another. We all need to develop our own style. I will continue with recommendations but will tailor it a bit different and certainly I will continue with the Sunday Morning Sermons.

“Saturday Recommendations” Hello Tishrei if you start letting others rule you because of their likes or dislikes you’ll soon stop Blogging. It’s your sight and you are to pick and choose how it’s ran, others will always be dissatisfied by something they read but you don’t have to try and please everybody! God knows and understands why you do what you do,and that should be enough. Please my Sister don’t be pushed around.
Love you
Hi Pat,
I would agree with you 100% except this has to do with other people’s blogs. If they are uncomfortable, then I should respect their wishes. I don’t know who is comfortable and who is not and to be honest, I don’t want to contact bloggers and ask permission. If I am putting people in a position where they feel that they have to do something for me, then that’s an uncomfortable position. It will be easier if I just don’t do blog recommendations. I’m still going to do recommendations because I want to post on the weekends, I can do it during the week and schedule the publication date and time. Also, I really think that some of these resources can be a benefit and blessing to others as they have been to me.
Thanks for your support.
