The Right View

2009 December 4

To God be the Glory

Yesterday I posted “Jesus is the salt on my fritos lyrics,” which I found to be rather shocking and certainly a wrong view of God. The blogger at Answers from the Book used a phrase in response to my post that correctly describes what happens when we don’t have a right view of God’s Holiness. The phrase that he used was “watered down.” When His Holiness is “watered down,” His glory becomes “trivialized. I started thinking about the right view of God. A scripture that kept coming to me was Revelation 4:8.  Holy, holy, holy, (in Hebrew, Kadosh, Kadosh, Kadosh)  is the Lord God Almighty.   He is the holy I AM, the Lord God Almighty.

And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,

“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,
who was and is and is to come!” Revelation 4:8 (ESV)

These are four living creatures that never cease to say “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty.” That is the right view of God. If Christians can even grasp, even just a little bit, the Holiness of God, the approach or view of God would parallel those saints of the Old Testament. The saints of old fell on their faces before God.

And fire came out from before the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the pieces of fat on the altar, and when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces. Leviticus 9:24 (ESV)

Then Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the entrance of the tent of meeting and fell on their faces. And the glory of the Lord appeared to them, Numbers 20:6 (ESV)

When God appears, even the very ground becomes holy. When God appeared to Moses in the burning bush, God commanded Moses to remove his sandals for the very ground became holy. Joshua also fell to his face and was commanded to take off his sandals for the place where he was standing became holy

And he said, “No; but I am the commander of the army of the Lord. Now I have come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped and said to him, “What does my lord say to his servant?” And the commander of the Lord‘s army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so. Joshua 5:14-15 (ESV)

If Christians have the right view of God, we will approach our Redeemer in worshipful reverence. His holiness and glory is breathtakingly awesome and majestic and songs with lyrics such as “Jesus is the salt on my fritos” would be appalling.

The right view of God is:

“Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they existed and were created.”
Revelation 4:11 (ESV)

I would like to share a song by Jewish Christian named Jonathan Settel. It is titled “Kadosh.” Kadosh is the Hebrew word for “Holy.” The song is in Hebrew, filmed in Israel. As you listen to him sing this song of worship unto the Lord, there really will be no need to understand all the words. He has the right view of God and you can hear it and feel it in his worship song. He sings “Kadosh, Kadosh, Kadosh” or “Holy, Holy, Holy.”

Great post and what a beautiful song. In our hustled and hurried world we tend to lose sight of this. We rush thru everything; even our prayers and our worship to God. We must keep focused on who he is.

I’m glad you liked the song. He is one of my favorite worship singers. And you’re right, people do tend to rush through everything. Sad but true.

    Thanks for stopping by.

    Tishrei,

You are so right….. The right kind of worship is with true reverence….. When Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman at the well, he said, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall you worship the Father…..But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.”

    God knows our hearts.

Thank you for sharing a song of worship that is so much more fitting than much of the so-called Christian music we hear these days….. When we get to heaven, we will sing rightly and it will come naturally, for we will see our Lord face to face…. I’m sure the Samaritan woman will be there singing with us.

    Margaret
