“Turn my eyes from looking at what is worthless.” Psalm 119:37

We must be always turning–if we would keep our life true and according to God’s commandments.

There are some flowers which always turn toward the sun. There was a little potted rose-bush in a sick-room which I visited. It sat by the window. One day I noticed that the one rose on the bush was looking toward the light. I referred to it; and the sick woman said that her daughter had turned the rose around several times toward the darkness of the room–but that each time the little flower had twisted itself back, until again its face was toward the light. It would not look into the darkness.

The rose taught me a lesson–never to allow myself to look toward any evil–but instantly to turn from it. Not a moment should we permit our eyes to be inclined toward anything sinful. To yield to one moment’s sinful act–is to defile the soul. One of the main messages of the Bible is, “Turn from the wrong, the base, the crude, the unworthy–to the right, the pure, the noble, the godlike!” We should not allow even an unholy thought to stay a moment in our mind–but should turn from its very first suggestion, with face fully toward Christ, the Holy One.

    A good post and do we ever need to keep our faces set like flint steady and daily moment by moment looking at how Jesus walked and lived here and how he loved and treated everyone with respect. Oh God help us your church to obey and trust you in the difficult days we find ourselves,please help us to keep our minds on you and learn from you O God to walk humbly with you we need you so Father and then I think Lord how very faithful you are and I Praise you for all of your many blessings.Amen

      I also love these posts (I’m not the one writing them, LOL). One thing I really, really like to do is read sermons or devotionals from preachers of days gone by. They really had a way of explaining things that really gets right down into your soul (so to speak).

    What a good lesson you have shared with us today!….. So many feel they can take part in all sorts of evil and refuse to call it evil….. They want to justify their sinfulness by claiming they are just as “good” as the next person…..

    With no understanding, they plod on through this life and do not face the truth of Isaiah 5:20-21, where God Almighty says, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; who substitute bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! … Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and clever in their own sight!”

    We all need to turn our faces away from the darkness of sin and face the light of holiness that is in Christ Jesus alone…..

    We don’t have to have a high IQ to turn away from evil — just a wise heart and soul.

    Great post and comments. The world, and sadly, even other Christians are very good at making us think we are supposed accept or conform to everything going on around us, and feeling guilty if we don’t. Be politically correct—or else labeled intolerant, hateful, and fundamentalist.

    Well, I guess, since I’m not politically correct, I must be intolerant, hateful and a fundamentalist. The funny thing is that those that would call me intolerant are very intolerant of my views, LOL.
